Blogging Slump

If you haven’t noticed, I’ve been in a little blogging slump lately. My last post on my blog was a full 10 days ago. I just don’t know why, but I can’t get myself to sit down to write reviews or think of content for my blog.

I know I want to blog more, but I just can’t bring myself to do it.

With Bookstagram, I do one or two photoshoots a week, then I post on the daily. With blogging, it’s a little different. I have to plan out what posts I want to write, take photos for them, and then write the actual post/ queue it to my blog.

My main problem is staying motivated for this. While photoshoots for Instagram happen almost seamless for me, from taking the photos to editing and adding them to my phone, blogging does not come as naturally for me. Especially when writing reviews, it usually takes me 2-3 sittings to finish a post.

So my question for you today is, how do you stay motivated to blog? Do you plan out your content carefully or blog as ideas come to you?

For me, I love to plan and organize things so I think I’m going to sit down and have a brain storming session soon to plan out some future blog content. I would love to hear your strategies and tips though 🙂

  1. Don’t worry if you get into a blogging slump every once in a while. But make sure that you take some time and get some content out when you can. Make sure that all the content you post is high quality. If you can’t think of good content to post, rather don’t post. I’ve learned this works best.

  2. I’m just new to blogging this year. I love to organize as well so I do plan my posts and try to post twice a week. So far that’s worked for me. Sometimes when I don’t have a review to post I write out a book tag I’ve seen or a list of top whatever. But maybe you just need a break, and that’s okay. Whenever you’re ready.

  3. I would recommend having some sort of list of post ideas that you can refer to any time you are in a slump or a need an idea. Also, if you have any free time or feel motivated enough, you can write a few posts that you can post whenever you need to.

  4. Funny, it’s the other way around for me, but maybe that’s because I’ve been blogging for years and only started my bookstagram a few months ago. Also, I tend to mostly blog about my writing, so if I plot or write stories, I automatically have content to blog about.

Something I’ve seen before and would like to see on your blog is more in-depth discussion about specific books or series. Which books have influenced you a lot recently? Which books or series were your favorites as a child and why? Stuff like that. Of course, if you don’t feel like blogging about all that, don’t force yourself. Sometimes all you need is a good break.

    1. Those are some great ideas! I’ve just started blogging so I don’t have a lot of content but I think I’ll try some of your ideas. Do you have any examples of in depth book discussions so that I can get an idea of how it’s done?

      1. Let’s see, I mostly follow German readers & writers, but Viktoria (https://seelieknight.wordpress.com/) has blogged about genre & age shaming and feminism in literature and Ivy (https://ivynettle.wordpress.com/tag/books/) sometimes explains why certain fantasy books or series mean a lot to her personally. Also, a German blogger recently suggested we all write a post about why we read & what it means to us which I think is a great idea!

  5. We all have been there, so don’t worry! I don’t know… I guess whenever I got an idea, (also known as I LOVE BLOGGING mode, bc I just keep spewing idea every 5 mins xD) even though it’s title only, I write as many draft as possible. And then whenever I don’t have any idea, (or in normal mode) I try to edit and finish as many possible. When I’m in a slump, I just read the already finish post and just post the ones I like 😀 Whenever I’m in a slump or just plain lazy, a list is the way to go 😀

  6. Blogging is definitely more time-consuming than Instagram. But that’s also what makes it more fun at times. You can put more time and thought into it to share your ideas more in-depth. We all go through slumps. My longest slump was probably during my last two years of university when I was so stressed out from school that I couldn’t even bother with blogging. I find that it helps if you take some time to just sit and brainstorm some ideas for your blog that you’d like to do. And then work on those ideas when the writer’s block strikes again. It may also help to set up a blogging routine – as in only post on certain days. That way you’re scheduling the posts you do have and you’ll be ready if you’re in a slump cause you’ve got some blog posts in place to be posted anyways. Good luck with it! And if you really can’t write, then don’t. Or do another post like this that just gets you putting words on a page. 🙂

  7. I don’t have an Instagram account, but I just love being a part of the book community so much that I have never not wanted to post something, it has always been an issue of if I have enough time. It’s a little different for me, since although I’m trying to start posting things other than reviews, a lot of what I post are reviews, so I don’t have a lot of planning to do as I post reviews once I finish them. I’m sorry that you are in a blogging slump, just take some time and try to remember what you love about blogging.

  8. I find blogging is like social media and youtube. The more frequently you upload the more people look at your site, leave comments etc but I was in a massive blogging slump for months and decided that I wasn’t going to circum to the pressure. Now I have a schedule where I try to upload twice a week but it is a very loose schedule. Although it is good to be consistent I just write a review when I finish a book, that could be in a day or in a month. I do however have a bullet journal dedicated to my blogs where I can write down ideas and track my postings etc. But you shouldn’t feel bad for not posting. This is your little space of the internet and you can do with it what you want 🙂

  9. I’m in a blogging slump too! Bookstagram comes easy to me as well, but blogging takes a lot more time and thought. I’m always second guessing myself and I’m terrible at writing reviews. I’ve decided that my content will be better if I want to do it, rather than forcing myself to do it. Even if that means taking a longer break. I’m still active on Twitter, Instagram, Goodreads etc. And I’m still reading, so that’s good. But I’m not putting too much pressure on myself and just going with how I feel at the moment.

  11. Aww, blogging slumps come to me too! I used to try to organise EVERYTHING, force myself to write something and post out specific days of every week but that really loaded the pressure and it got me pushed in a slump again and again. What’s really helped is just post whenever i can whether that be a review or a discussion or whatever I want. That way, it doesn’t pressure me to read faster to get a review out on date and it doesn’t force me on a laptop trying to make something happen that just doesn’t.

Everybody blogger is going to have it different and some people work well in instances than others. My blogging was really inconsistent because of how pressured I felt and I found myself apologising so many times over. Change your way of working a bit and you might find that soemthing suits a lot better for you! Or maybe you just need a change of work environment or your just simply on a blogging slump. Whatever it is, I hope everything turns out well!

  13. i think its okay to take a little time to post or think over a post , it just means you care about what your posting which will in the end result in you having a blog that your even prouder of. I usually have problems with bookstagram shoots and what i usually do is just let myself feel down for a little bit and then just look at some inspiration to get you excited and I promise things just start working and you’ll feel that much better

  14. I just started keeping a list of blog topic ideas in my writer’s notebook (like a giant thought dump you can carry around lol It’s basically my brain on paper) It’s been helping because otherwise i log onto wordpress and stare blankly at the computer for a few hours, lol.

Don’t worry too much. The slump will pass soon ❤ Your blog is always amazing and I love* your posts, you'll get back in the swing of things soon!
