A Court of Covers #1: It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover

IMG_6441

This is a new series on my blog where I will be discussing one of my favorite topics, COVERS. In A Court of Covers, I will be judging book covers. (Haha, get it? court… judge?)

I’ll make a confession now. Yes, I judge books by their covers. Yes, sometimes I buy books solely because of their beautiful cover. Yes, sometimes I don’t read a book because I don’t like the cover. Yes, I buy multiple copies of books to get matching covers. As a book lover, judging a book cover is a must-do! Of course, beyond the cover we have to consider the content + more. But, first impressions DO matter, at least to me. I’m not trying to be shallow, but a pretty cover will definitely catch my eye better than a plain cover.

I know many other book bloggers have blog series discussing covers too: The Cover Games @Twirling Pages, Cover Lust Fridays @Alice Reeds + so many more!!

This series will include discussions of covers by theme, covers by seasons, cover reveals, cover changes, covers of a series, spines, typography + etc.

unnamed.jpgToday… we will be discussing the newly revealed cover of Colleen Hoover’s new book: It Ends With Us. You may or may not know this, (although you should), but I LOVE Colleen Hoover. I own almost all of her books and I absolutely love them. Of course, I was ecstatic to hear that she has another book coming out this year. (Bless her because I can only go so long without Colleen Hoover in my life)

This new book is slated to be released on August 2nd, 2016. I know, that’s 5 months away. I don’t even know how I can wait that long either. For more info + to preorder:
Goodreads / Amazon.

Now, let’s talk about this cover.

The Case: The background is a tan/cream light wood pattern. The main subject of the cover is some dried crushed flowers sprinkled across the cover. The font is also with the wooden pattern but in a purple plum color. Details are in a small black font.

The Deliberation:  Have you seen a cover before with flowers crushed like this? Not me. One thing I love about Colleen Hoover’s books are the COVERS. Goodness, they are always so beautiful, this one is definitely not an exception.

The color scheme… the background is a light wooden background and the font is a purple-plum color which definitely stands out from the background.

The font, is just a basic block font, not very different from her other covers. However, I’m perfectly fine with that. It’s easy to read and the colors look awesome!

The Final Verdict: I REALLY LIKE IT. It’s unique, it’s eye-catching. The contrast between the two colors are PERFECT. I feel like it is an exceptionally nice cover and definitely makes me want to add it to my book collection. It also drew my eyes in to read more about the book blurb which is always a good sign (getting a reader’s attention). I honestly can’t wait for this book to come out now.

Additional Evidence
Design: 4.5/5
Color Scheme: 5/5
Typography: 4/5
“Wow” factor: 4/5

Now… your turn. What did you think about this cover? 🙂

  1. Ooh, I really like the cover to this! I didn’t actually know about this book, so thank you for letting me know! 😉 I love the purple colour scheme, and crushed flower is super cool too. I think it’s the nicest cover of Colleen Hoover’s! I hope you enjoy this when you get to it 😀

  2. Love the new blog series already! There have been so many amazing cover reveals the past few days… and this one is no exception. I really like the color scheme and what they did to the poor flower 😀

I guess it’s only a pet peeve of mine but I could do without the “a novel” and ‘#1 New York Times bestselling author” – they take the eye away from the rest and really… I don’t need to be told it’s a novel or that Hoover did great with her other books >-<

Looking forward to the next cover in this series! (:

  3. I was so surprised to see she has an upcoming book already o.o (after all I feel that November 9 was released like two days ago) but the cover it’s pretty. It’s not super eye catchy but it’s nice! Nice feature by the way ^^

  4. Wow, that is a beautiful cover! I love the idea of your new series, will def keep an eye out for new posts.

And yes, I judge books by their covers too. Bookstores in my country don’t have many books in English, so I tend to order a lot and one of the perks is that I can choose which edition I want. Of course, I’ll almost always pick the one with the prettiest cover!

  5. I completely agree with you about judging books by their covers. I do the same. I have an artist friend and we have walked through a bookstore and discussed what is wrong with some covers. It’s always an interesting conversation. Personally, I prefer more abstract covers rather than ones with people on them. I feel like it restricts the imagination and so often I’ve seen characters on covers that differ in huge ways from the character’s description in the book and that bothers me so much! I’m stoked to see more covers that you love. 🙂
