Wink Poppy Midnight is a mystery young adult book. This is definitely not a genre I touch often, the only other one I can think off the top of my head that I’ve read in this genre was We Were Liars (which I personally didn’t like). So, it was definitely a compelling and apprehensive reading experience for me.

The concept of Wink Poppy Midnight is very unique. It is told from 3 characters’ perspective: Wink, Poppy & Midnight. All we are told is there is a hero, a villain, and a secret. This is a question we have to consider throughout reading experience.

I will not go into details about the plot to avoid spoilers. This book is a mystery, so of course I was trying to guess what the true story was the whole time. Let me tell you, I guessed at least 5 different possibilities, I wasn’t right in any aspects. It was very surprising to me that I could not even guess what the ending of the book would be like.

However, the writing style was very engaging. The author writes in an almost-lyrical style. It is very interesting, especially if you spend some time thinking about the phrasing and word choice.

Honestly, this is kind of one of the books I have read, but wouldn’t be able to re-explain it to you. It’s just something you have to experience for yourself.

Although I am not 100% familiar with this genre, I do feel like it was a very good book, uniquely written. I do encourage to get yourself a copy of this book and give it a try if the synopsis interests you!
