Plot Summary

Favorites
Where do I begin? The plot? The romantic aspect? The writing style? Oh, how I love you Colleen Hoover. I honestly didn’t read much about this book before reading it, which is a good thing I’ve been finding out — when I know too much about a book before reading it (i.e. reviews, plot, characters etc.) it seems to bias me or make me set an expectation for something I haven’t read. Anyways, I found that this story was so alluring (is that the right word?). It reminded me very much of Ugly Love (the only other book I’ve read by Colleen Hoover). Not because the characters or plot were at all similar, it’s the way my heart was buzzing with emotions as I read this. It’s beautiful, heartbreaking, yet so engaging, I don’t know how Colleen Hoover does it.

Also, I found that the official playlist for this book was amazing. It definitely added a theatrical level of enjoyment to this book as I was reading it and listening to the songs for this book. If you own the book, you can find more details about the playlist in the first few pages of the book.

Not-so-faves
Although I loved the characters in this book, they were extremely likable and so on. However, I found that the supporting characters details felt a tad bit under-developed. When I say under developed, I mean it in a sense that I feel like there wasn’t enough description about them, for me to form a clear image of what they look like. This was only a minor problem for me, but I would have loved it if the supporting characters (in particular Warren) were described in a bit more details.

Final Thoughts
This book was great, CoHo, you did it again! After reading and falling in love with Ugly Love, I was a bit worried to read another novel by her. It’s just that Ugly Love was so amazing, I was worried that I wouldn’t love her other works as much. I was worried for nothing… Maybe Someday was great and I loved it. (I still love Ugly Love more, but that’s not the point I’m trying to make.)
Maybe Someday was heart-wrenching, emotional, and unique. I feel like it was a tad dramatic, but it played well into the characters and the plot. When I first started reading it, I didn’t think that I would become so invested into the plot. But, 150 pages in or so, I was diving head first into the story and the characters. I couldn’t book the book down. And… yes, I cried a little too… okay, it wasn’t a little, it was a lot. I love it when books make me cry, as weird as it sounds; it just means that the book was great enough to draw such emotions out of me.

Maybe Someday has landed itself into my mental list of my top books I’ve read in 2015. This is exactly what a new adult novel should be like. Colleen Hoover somehow brings out all the things I love about this genre into one book. The relationship, the love, the finding of yourself, etc. I wish there were more NA genre books that are like this. But, I definitely can’t wait to dive into other works by Hoover.

If you’ve read this book, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Love, Jeanette

  5. I’ve had Ugly Love on my wishlist for a while now, and it sounds like I need to add this one too! Somehow, I’ve never read a Colleen Hoover book. I think I need to change this because I keep hearing so many great things about her books.
